A fantastic win on the weekend for the Melbourne Rebel makes this weeks Rebel Rant Medal a lot more enjoyable -- but not any more easier. There were a whole host of great performers in the second half, but the following players were the best.
1 vote: Nic Stirzaker
Very impressive from the young man in his first appearance this season. He had big shoes to fill, replacing the veteran Luke Burgess, but fill them he did. Hungry, willing, quick in getting his hands on the ball (as you do as a scrumhalf) and then flicking it off again, he showed great poise and decision-making throughout the game and was a delight to watch. Wouldn't be surprised at all if he retains his spot for the next game. Shota Horie was unlucky to not get the one vote for his appearance off the bench.
2 votes: Mitch Inman
Another very good performer from Inman. He was great against the Cheetahs, went cold for a few rounds, but has been getting better again over the last two weeks, and this game against the Brumbies was his best yet. He and Ellison were the tough brick walls for the Rebels all night, bashing into everyone, but his evasive skills shown in the second try for the Rebels, where he slipped through a host of Brumbies with ease exhibited his flexibility between brute force and light-footed speed.
3 votes: Jason Woodward
Without doubt the star performer of the night. Woodward finished with 27 of the Rebels 32 points on the night, scoring 6 penalties, 2 conversions and splitting the gap between five Brumbies defenders to go over for a try. He set the record for the most points for the Rebels in a match, surpassing James O'Connor's former tally of 24, and in his his first game back from a short knee injury, was the main catalyst in getting the Rebels the win.
Shota Horie was phenomenal coming off the bench; easily his best game for the club so far. It was outstanding to see a hooker get as involved as he was. Tom English also deserves a mention down the wing; he's been good all season. Also, Colby Fainga'a racking up 14 tackles for the game deserves a mention too.
