Another tough game for the Rebels with another disappointing result, but there were still a few players we were able to pick out as the shining lights in the Rebels performance against the Waratahs from round 6.
1 vote: Luke Jones
It was a tricky decision trying to pick a player for the one vote. In the end it was Luke Jones who got it. After being rested in favour of Caydern Neville for the game against the Force a few weeks ago, Jones has shown us why he deserves to be the starting lock alongside Hugh Pyle. One of the biggest men in the side, he puts his frame to good use in both attack and defence. He is often the go-to man for the Rebels when it's time to use brute force, usually racking up the most carries in a match for Melbourne. His efforts don't go unnoticed, which is why he gets his first vote of the season.
2 votes: Bryce Hegarty
Again, Bryce Hegarty proved to use why he is one of the better young talents in this Rebels team. His first half was much better than his second, it must be said. Nevertheless, he continues to excel as a flyhalf, creating play, willing to take the game on, and running at the defenders. He was one of the few that showed heart. A player with much enthusiasm; another two votes for the young man.
3 votes: Scott Higginbotham
This man continues to be the strongest performer for the club on a week-to-week basis. The captain of the team once again led by example, trying his hardest in all facets of the game. Again involved in the breakdowns, a cornerstone to the scrum, helping the halves with the play, even setting up his own play and having a run at the defenders from time to time. It's easy to see how much effort he's putting into trying to get a result for the team. If only the rest of the squad were able to sustain as much zeal as he does over the course of 80 minutes, they might've had a few better results. A try in the first half was much deserved for him as well.
