Time for another Rebel Rant Medal count. Last week we saw captain Scott Higginbotham claim the first three points of the season, while Luke Burgess and Tom English also polled. Who will get the votes this week?
It was a rather disappointing effort from the Rebels on the weekend, going down in a 25 point loss to the Western Force over in Perth. The team looked rather flat and weren't in the game at all, which made it relatively hard for me to choose three standout players for this weeks medal count. Here goes nothing.
1 vote: Laurie Weeks
After starting against the Cheetahs in round 3, Weeks was dropped to the bench for this game against the Force. He came on in the second half and showed his experience, working hard in the ruck department and tackling with intent.
2 votes: Bryce Hegarty
Like Weeks, Hegarty was dropped to the bench for this match in favour of Angus Roberts, but there is no doubt in my mind that we will see him back in the no.10 role next week. Hegarty showed why he is one of the highest-rated youngsters in the Melbourne side with the little time he spent on the field. Clean passes, smart decisions, and -- unlike some of his other team mates -- he just never really put a foot wrong.
3 votes: Scott Higginbotham
The captain takes home the chocolates again this week. He worked tirelessly around the ground and fought for everything around the rucks and scrum. Ultimately he didn't have as good a game as he did last week but he was admirable in a poor performance from the Rebels, and he did show great leadership qualities in copious amounts in Perth. Nobody would have been more disappointed in the loss than him.
